On artificial intelligence
In African public health, AI will not be decided by the models but by the data we give them. A fragmented system does not become intelligent because an algorithm is added to it. The value is created upstream, where data becomes complete, comparable and reliable. That upstream layer is what we build.
Ethics, in concrete terms
Transparency, protection of patient privacy, and models free of discriminatory bias. AI should support a decision, not pass judgement.
Fit to context
In low and middle income countries, low resource systems come first, and the technology has to match the technological literacy of the people who will use it. Africa does not need imported algorithms with new branding.
